I graduated from the University of Memphis in 1982, and the University of Memphis School of Law in 1985. I guess that puts me somewhere between not quite as old as a rock but certainly more mature than a pebble. I am admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts of Tennessee and Mississippi as well as the United States Supreme Court. The trip to get my Supreme Court certification sure was a trip to remember. I have been a member of the family law section, criminal law section, solo/small firm section, and the bankruptcy section and have practiced in various areas of the law. My legal services have been used for adoption, probate, civil, criminal, contract, business, family law, personal injury, workers' compensation, and bankruptcy cases. At the turn of the century, I decided to limit my practice to the area of consumer bankruptcy. In 2002, I accepted a position with the Memphis and Shelby County Juvenile Court to handle the federal bankruptcy work for the IV-D cases. I returned to my private practice in 2004 to exclusively work in bankruptcy courts. In my legal career, I am particularly proud of three events. The first event was the opportunity to participate as a barrister member of the Leo Bearman, Sr. Chapter of American Inns of Court. The second event was when I was chosen to be one of the "50 Women Who Make a Difference," which is an award based upon nominations from my clients in Memphis in 2004. The third event was when I was recognized by the US Department of Transportation for the pilot work I did in forming a nonprofit corporation for the Memphis ARTCC Child Development Center. This work was later used by other air traffic facilities and IRS centers across the nation in establishing their child care and development centers. Since limiting my area of practice to just bankruptcy, I have served on the Memphis Bar Association's board of directors as a chairperson for committees such as hospitality, continuing legal education, and the annual seminar. I served two years as a coach for the law school moot court team for the Conrad B. Duberstein Moot Court Competition at St. John's University. Currently, I have the honor of serving as co-chairperson of the Bankruptcy Liaison Committee and am a member of the Space and Technology Committee and the Rules Committee. |
